Taking up again this subject of educational platforms for future IT professionals, we were curious to investigate the best Ukrainian universities from the point of view of the former and present students who have chosen to become a part of IT community. TOP 3 Universities by National Rating
According to the 11th national rating “TOP-200 Ukraine” that tracks the higher education market annually, the first, second and third were occupied by National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University respectively. To start with, let’s take a quick look at each one.
#1 National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”
The first place for establishment and development of strong innovative ecosystem “Sikorsky Challenge”, investments in dozens of startups, supplying numerous projects in defense system of Ukraine and licensing their inventions, takes National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”.
Founded in 1898, now it counts thousands students in its two campuses in Kyiv and Slavutych.
Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was ranked the 551th in QS World University Rankings this year.
#2 Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was ranked the second one due to the highest level of budgetary funding of research; graduates who are highly sought after on labour market, especially in government sector. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv ranks the 431th in QS World University Rankings this year.
#3 V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University
Number three on “TOP-200 Ukraine” is V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University. It takes the 382th place in QS World University Rankings this year.
Founded in 1804, Kharkiv National University is a public university which has 20 schools, three research institutes, and three museums. It provides education to 14,000 undergraduate and 500 postgraduate students and employs about 1,100 professors.
Top 4 Universities to Start IT Career
According to the results of the survey of 2000 present and former students now related to IT sphere, the following universities were ranked as perspective to launch career in IT. Answers of only experienced respondents were accounted, although their specialization wasn’t considered.
#1 National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy
This university was mostly presented by the faculty of informatics. General results are 9 of 10 possible points, which means that 9 of 10 students would recommend you to study here in order to link your future career with IT world. This university is said to build strong connections with IT companies, to guarantee its graduates high chances for successful employment. It has a strong tech basis to gain expertise (for instance, 92% of respondents used to work on Java in Academy, while only 50% of interviewees explored this technology at least on basic level). Education complexity was estimated as “above the average”. And what’s more, corruption level was ranked as low. In other words, none of the interviewees has faced it during the educational process here.
#2 Donetsk National Technical University
8 of 10 students would recommend you to study here. Given technical proficiency as well as keeping in touch with IT companies is to be on average.
#3 Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv
7 of 10 students would recommend Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, thus it claims the third position according to the survey results. Its image along with relevance and gained knowledge were highly appreciated. Most participants find IT skills they obtained during the educational process useful in terms of successful employment. At the same time, however, technical expertise and financial performance remains on the poor level. Student community is described as well developed.
#4 National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”
Trust level resulted in 6 out of 10 possible points (means only 6 of 10 students would possibly recommend you this University). Education complexity was estimated as “above the average”. And finally, respondents indicated that connections with IT companies were held poorly, as well as the sphere in general, and assumed it’d be difficult to integrate to labor market afterwards.
It’s curious how public universities take the lead in the rating competing with educational platforms. Well, on the other hand, those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. You may do a philosophy degree but end up working in tech and loving your job.
